Issues with Page Templates? Solve them with Thesis 1.3.1

by Chris Pearson

In my haste to crank out version 1.3, I forgot to incorporate page template functionality into the new and improved framework. I spent some time this morning working page templates back into the core, and in all honesty, the page template system is now more robust than ever.

Also, while working on the theme, I noticed that the comment form in version 1.3 wasn’t picking up the appropriate font/size information. Naturally, I ironed out this wrinkle in 1.3.1, so if you noticed this problem on your site, simply upgrade and it’ll magically go away.

Without further ado, go grab Thesis 1.3.1 and check out the two included page templates, Archives and No Sidebars. For those of you anticipating raw landing page functionality, you ought to be able to construct your own landing page in the meantime using the No Sidebars template.

Are you subscribed to the Thesis theme feed yet? If not, make sure you subscribe now, and you won’t miss another update!

Secretly, my corporate accounts and I have been lusting for Page templates and functionality.

As usual, my man CP has given us uber-functionality and a pretty face.

We love you man !

Can we please have some more detail on how to use Page templates?
I’ve made custom page templates with other themes but so much of Thesis’ code just isn’t in the template and I’m getting lost.

Howdy, again, Chris.

Took the plunge, and have Thesis 1.3.1 for the corporate blog I’m working on [I'll have to upgrade to Developer status, when I apply it to one of my own blogs :) ].

It’s a beaut, but The Powers That Be want privacy — for the blog to be only readable by approved users (i.e. those issued passwords, or who sign up for their own after being given a registration token).

Sooo…how does one go about making a Thesis blog private read, only, i.e. with the home page being a static login page that once passed goes to the regular blog, and that displays or goes to a registration page if one isn’t already an approved member? Register Plus is a plugin that seems to handle 1st time registration pages, except I don’t know what that means, and it looks like the plugin doesn’t actually create said page automatically. And I unfortunately have no clue how to create a login page as a bouncer at the blog’s doorway.

Thoughts?

Beck,

We use these 2 plugins to get privacy.

Cheers,

Jeff

Chris, Would you consider adding a template for fullwidth?

I’ve spent a few hours on this and can’t get anything in the forum to work for me. Fullwidth seem like a popular template.

Chris Pearson November 11, 2008 at 10:08 am

John — A full-width page template is already included in Thesis 1.3.1. All you have to do is select “Page with No Sidebars” as your page template, and voila!

I have looked everywhere on this website for some way to email you with questions and cannot find any way to do so. What gives?

This looks like a killer template, and I’m considering purchasing it, but if I do, I don’t want a link to this website on every page of my blog. To me, that’s like paying $15k for a new car and leaving the dealer’s name on the back of it; I’m not going to give you money and advertise for you too. Can I buy it and ditch the link?

Discuss.

Chris Pearson November 12, 2008 at 9:49 am

John — If you purchase the developer’s option, then you can remove the attribution link. If you don’t want to purchase that option, then you can simply replace the link with your DIYthemes affiliate link, which will allow you to get paid when you refer sales to us.

Hi Chris–

Going one step further with the Landing Page thing–is there a simple way to allow specific Landing Pages to use different headers (as opposed to the header that is common to the rest of the site)?

Thanks!

Chris Pearson November 17, 2008 at 12:06 pm

Brady — Excellent question, especially considering that landing pages are going to be an important avenue for development in the very near future. At this time, you cannot specify different headers for custom landing pages, but in a future release, you will absolutely be able to do so.

I’m actually hoping to be able to offer a couple of landing page templates right out of the box. Eventually, I plan to offer an entire suite of tools for marketers, and landing pages are going to be essential pieces of this tool set.

Chris,
I am trying to create a landing page. In WP I thought that there was a check box to make a page the landing page for the site. I can’t find that functionality. Are you saying that it doesn’t exist at this time?

Would seem that one would want to have a business page come up first upon selecting to view my blog.

Thanks
