I am interested in your theme but I am wondering if it has the capability of adding video clips and advertisment banners. I have the latest update of wordpress and I am tired of changing themes and not getting the help to work with my theme. I have not worked on my blog because I have been running into various problems lately.

Please get back to me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Anthony: Depending on the extent of the customizations you’ll be wanting to make, Thesis isn’t too bad even for newbies. Loads of help & free code snippets can be lifted from the support forums, and there are very likely plenty of people who would be willing to give you very specific code to do what you want — or who you could hire to get what you need done.

I do hope you’ll Get Thesis, though; a lot of people have found it to be the greatest thing for blogging since WordPress itself, and I’m sure it’ll help you take your site to the next level as well.

Hi Chris:

Chris Brogan’s new page has me thinking seriously of switching Audiophilia to a WordPress Thesis model.

I am technically very limited. My developer has done all but the creative content on my site. How easy would it be to switch for plonker like me? 🙂 The thought of easy updates, daily content, RSS, comments, and the whole blog look has got me thinking.

Chris,
I just put (maybe) Feedburner on my site. Feedburner indicates that it is compatible with WP 2.5 but does not mention the latest upgrade in WP. Do you suppose that means incompatibility?

magnolia: For an introduction to FTP clients, check out this introductory page on the WordPress Codex. When you download custom.css -- either via your host's file manager or via FTP -- you can open it up for editing in Notepad or Wordpad. If Notepad displays the file as a long string of text, use Wordpad to open it, immediately save the file, then re-open it in Notepad and it'll appear correctly. Then you can add your custom CSS information to that file, adding to whatever is already present. Only style information should be placed into the file. Afterwards, save the file, re-upload it to thesis/custom/ via your host's file manager or FTP client, and make sure that the box is checked in Thesis Options to make use of the custom.css file, and you should be all set. There is a page in the Thesis Manual which further explains how to customize Thesis with custom.css.

Okay. I found it. I use Bluehost for my blog, so I think I’ve got the FTP client factor covered? (not sure what FTP client is exactly?)

Here’s where I’m befuddled………when I open the custom file, I see one long string of text. It looks nothing like the CSS style sheet in the theme customization area.

So, what exactly am I customizing?

Am I supposed to be adding the code to this file that has the long, continuous line of text and then uploading back to Bluehost?

And if that is the case, does the Thesis theme simply utitlize that file as long as I have the box checked that says Custom CSS?

Hoping I’m clear.

Joni — That just means you can't go out, pretend you're DIYthemes, and sell any modifications of Thesis. Magnolia — Your custom.css file is located in your /thesis/custom folder. At this time, you cannot edit this file from within WordPress; you must use an external text editing program (use Notepad++ if you're on Windows) to edit this file, and you need an FTP client to upload the edited file to your server.

Some days I feel really smart. Some days I feel really lame. This is one of those latter days……….

I do not understand what the custom CSS is supposed to look like.

I know how to find the CSS for the theme and I see quite clearly, the warning to “not make any changes to this file”

But, I’m clueless as to where my custom CSS file is and how to use it.

I’ve downloaded what I thought was a zip file with it in it, when I click on what I think is the CSS page, it opens up Notepad and all I see is some text across the top of the page.

I do not see anything that looks like a complete file.

Am I missing something? Am I really that stupid? 🙁

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but when you say you cannot sell the Thesis theme or any derivative thereof, I hope you don’t mean I cannot charge my client for designing his site using it? Taken literally,

You may not re-sell the theme or any modification thereof

could mean exactly that. Please clarify this for me. Thx.
