Detective,

I set up Thesis 1.0 for localization, but I did not create a .po/.pot file (I have no experience with them whatsoever; in fact, I've never even seen one!).

I was hoping that a gracious, ambitious user would get the ball rolling, and then perhaps I could go through it with a fine-tooth comb and iron out the details.

I'm planning on updating the Welsh translations for Wordpress, from 1.5 to 2.x I assume everything is the same as it would be for the standard Wordpress package as defined here:
Installing WordPress in Your Language WordPress Codex

Namely; creating a languages sub-folder and uploading the relevant .mo files?

I'll have to investigate the various options.

Hi,

I am total newbee to both wp and thesis. I want to use thesis, but in Hungarian, so I went thru the pot/po question. I created a pot file. See it attached. (Change the extension back to .pot to use it!)
As I said, I am new to this, so the header of the file might not be as complete as it should be.
And also I have no idea where to put the translated files and what to change in the original files to use the transtlation.

Can anybody help?

I'm also Hungarian (we are everywhere ) with the same problem. It needs a solution for all the non-English speaking users. I tried out other templates before, just changed the standard words into Hungarian in the php module. It works well but far from the elegance, and you will lost all your correction if you get a new version. So I also eagerly need expert's help.

I found the solution.

If anybody wants a localized version of the theme, take the following steps:

1. Download the file that is in my previous message. This is the .pot file (i used .txt because I could not upload a .pot, so rename it!) generated by xgettext. This file contains all the English text that Chris marked as text to be seen by the readers of the blog (It is marked with __ and _e.).

By the way, Chris, if you are reading this: Not all text is marked. I found a couple where the _e is missing. I will make you a list and put it up here.

2. Use poedit or a similar application to translate and generate the .po (similar file as the .pot, but contains both the English and the translated text) and .mo (machine readable version of .po) files.

3. Name your .mo file according to the language you are using following the wp notations. That is ll_CC.mo, where ll is the language code, and CC is the country code. In my example that is hu_HU.mo.

4. Upload this file to the directory of the theme (where the styles.css is for the thesis theme).

5. In your functions.php (which is located in the same directory) insert the following:

load_theme_textdomain('thesis');

6. And you are done. Your theme is localized. Just to make sure: this only works if you are already using a localized version of wp.

Good luck!

With Poedit I'm also on the right way, get .pot file, make .mo, but not finished the job.
Thank to kezsuzsi I wil do it.

May I ask you to share your .pot and .mo files? If not translated fully I can help to finish it.

Yes it is working now... but not 100%. Kezsuzsi mentioned some missig _e and __, but I foud that some complex codes also not working, like:

<p class="to_comments"><span class="bracket">{</span> <a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>#comments" rel="nofollow"><?php comments_number(__('<span>0</span> comments', 'thesis'), __('<span>1</span> comment', 'thesis'), __('<span>%</span> comments', 'thesis')); ?></a> <span class="bracket">}</span></p>

8. row in comment_functions.php. Similar situation in 115 of comments.php.

I could translate but nothing is happen. Looks like:

{ 0 comments… legyen a tiéd a következő }

"add one now" is translated, but "comments" not. It is wrong also for 0,1 or more comments.

I'm disappointed. I don't know if I made mistakes or it is poor coding... Anyway I want some help.

Thanks for the instructions, I got it working. However, to see any effects, I had to name the file "fi.mo", not "fi_FI.mo".
