Default Edit link in a single post

I crosspost here my question/answer to another thread.
If I'm not wrong, there's no "edit" link in a single post. This way, when you have to edit a post, you have to access to the dashboard, and looking for the post you want to modify. Not very handy, in my opinion. I hope in the next version of Thesis this can be fixed.

This isn't an issue with Thesis, it's part of the way WordPress is currently set up.

What? Actually, Thesis is the first theme I've found not using an "edit" link a single post in order to quickly access to the dashboard.
As you can see from the attached screenshot, when I'm logged in as admin, I can use the link "edit" to modify a post. I'm currently using WP 2.5.1

Adding an edit link to each post is as simple as popping in some php around the postmeta code:

<?php edit_post_link('Edit', '', ' | '); ?>

Sure, and that's what I'm going to do. What is weird is the fact that a premium theme has not such a basic feature...

The advantage of premium themes is the rock-solid basis and the after-sale support. The key is buyers don't get an 'everything including the kitchen sink' feature list, but a framework upon which you can build to your liking.

Otherwise, there's always 'wait until the update.'

This is not a frill, it's a fundamental feature allowing a user to quickly check and modify a post. Anyway, Chris just told me that this feature will be implemented next month, not in 1.0.

Adding in the edit link was always the first thing I did whenever using Chris' Neoclassical theme. I'm very glad to hear it'll be built in to a future Thesis version; it's always a nuisance to find the edit button missing whenever I update a site and forget to reapply the addition of the edit link.

I wholeheartedly agree with phastidio that the edit button is by no means a frill, and even if it was, is it any more of a frill than everything that already comes with Thesis? Random header images is by no means a necessary element of blogging, after all.*

* But it is a very wonderful addition to it!

Honestly, the only reason why this never made it into any previous themes was simply because I hate accommodating yet *another* element in a design. I always shoot for minimalism, and one more *stinking* link gets on my nerves.

But hey, having to enter the WP dash all the time is a lot more unnerving in the long run... And besides, I personally feel like Thesis should have it all, and of course, this includes an "edit" link!

One more stinkin' link, sure... But it is a link only blog editors/admins will see, after all.
