Default How to add sidebar content?

Okay, I know this is a really dumb question, but I'm new to this whole thing. How can I add things like ads and newsletter opt-in's to my sidebar area? Do I do this in the CSS part and just insert the code in a certain place?

I was a typepad user and there you just add a link in a note format and type the code in the notes portion and it magically appeared where you wanted it ;-)

Thanks for your help!!!!

Melissa:

You can acomplish this by adding a text widget on one of your sidebars and then inserting your .html code. For example, on my blog, I have an email subscription on my top right sidebar. I just created a widget and added the .html code.

You may also be interested in adding a block of ads at the top of your sidebars, here's a post that talks about how to do this:

Hope this helps some!

If there is not a widget to do what you want, Google knows where to find all sorts of plugins which add a variety of widgets for different purposes.
