I have a website with less than 10 articles (pages) I want to migrate to wp with thesis (these are static html pages by now, no wp installation or cms).
Now I have installed wp and thesis theme and made up a post for each of my articles. Now all of my complete articles are shown on the homepage and each article on its individual post page. I wonder if this is the best way to do it. Since I will not add new stuff that regularly on the site I will have duplicate content for a long time (all stuff on the homepage plus the individual pages). Should I use excerpts for the homepage to not display the full article there? How can I determine which of my articles will appear at the home page and the order of the appearance? I don't want to sort by chronological order cause this doesn't make any sense for my site. The posts at the homepage at Pearsonified seem to be controlled by the author. How can I do this? I hope I could explain what I want to accomplish, sorry for my bad english. Maybe there are already answers to my questions somewhere, would be fine if someone could redirect me to there. Thank you. |

There are a few options here !!
1) find some relevant plugins to control what is displayed on the front page. eg Sticky , page order plugins or even the new version 1 of the thesis theme as it has a new control panel which will / should you a lot more !! 2) you can set WP to control whether its displying pages or posts. If you opt for static pages make sure you create a blank page and call it something like posts page to assign it to the post option. This is a known glitch with WP but its fixed when doing it this way. if unsure where this is goto > wp-admin> settings> reading > then choose how you want it. 3)To stop a whole post from showing you can use one of the tinyMCE options - i think its called the insert more tag . if you cant see it then it might come with the TinyMCE Advanced plugin. What I would do in your case is copy the content as pages . then they could show up on the nav bar a separate sections. Then I would leave the posts section for your log of what you're upto , whats bothered you etc. hope that made sense and if youre still struggling to work it out then drop us a mail - halatwebactifdotcodotuk.
