I'm pretty sure from an SEO standpoint, Chris recommends *not* linking to tag archives. The reason being is that tag links simply create more links on the page which lead *away* from your content, which dilutes the importance of your post content.
A related posts plugin would be much better by comparison because rather than linking to an intermediary archives page, there would be links to other (potentially) relevant pages, which is good both for search engines and for users.

No prob, kermit. I will say, though, that it may depend on your site; for some people -- I think these would be the minority of tag users -- the tag archive pages are important. For most users, however, they probably add very little to your site.
It may be worthwhile to try it both ways for a while and keep tabs on your traffic and what kind of incoming traffic the tags archives bring in.
